... to explore the great outdoors
All too often visitors to the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park focus only on its famous ridges and summits, however the area has a far more rich offering of lower level walks that include fine views of mountain summits and may include woodland, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, open countryside, valleys and more. The area is rich in wildlife and plants, much of which can only be found at lower levels, below the high summits and ridges.
For the visitor who only has a few days it is impossible to explore the entire area. The routes described in 'Walks in and around Nantgwynant' (published 2023) and 'More Walks in and around Nantgwynant' (published 2024), aimed at those wanting to discover the great outdoors in north Wales, are focused in and around the small peaceful hamlet of Nantgwynant, nestled at the foot of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). They are not primarily aimed at the experienced mountain walker, but at the 'Sunday strollers' and 'Enthusiastic ramblers' who may choose to visit the area and who want to enjoy walks at lower levels than the high ridges and summits that rise high above the valleys. Most of the walks require only basic navigation skills to follow the directions along obvious low level paths, while a few require confident map reading skills to follow the route, and the walks are categorised accordingly. (Please read the 'Staying Safe' chapter of the book for more information and suggestions as to how to prepare for an enjoyable walk.)
Nantgwynant has many accommodation options with its bunkhouses, youth hostel, holiday cottages and nearby camp sites, along with many varied walking options (and close proximity to picturesque Beddgelert) making it, for many, the ideal base from which to explore without having to travel too far from their accommodation. (See the 'accommodation' section for more information.)

... with river and lakeside trails to wander
Great care has been taken to try to ensure the routes are dscribed clearly and with sufficient detail for then to be straight forward to follow for each type of walker used to categorise walks. However, landscapes are ever evolving (and it is important for walkers to stay alert to possible changes), fences or walls may be erected or removed, styles replaced by gates (or gates by styles), stream crossings replaced by footbridges, or footpath routes can be diverted or changed to give just a few examples.
Feedback is welcome (especially as to how route discriptions can be improved or updated, or outlining any additional 'favourite walks' discovered in the area which are compatible with the intended readship of the book). It would also be great to hear which routes have been walked and found to be particularly enjoyable. If you wish to share your experiences, which may help in identifying edits or additions to any future editions or reprints of the book, please email feedback@nantgwynantwalks.org and if applicable mention for which book / walk you are providing feedback.
