... on classic mountain ridges and summits!
Although the books Walks in and and around Nantgwynant and More walks in and around Nantgwyant are specifically aims at those looking for walks more gentle and less demanding than the classic summits and ridges of the mountains that tower above the valley, the Nantgwyant valley is also an ideal location from which to enjoy more demanding adventures.
More demanding mountain expeditions (not featured in the books) that can be walked directly from Nantgwyant (or after a very short drive) include: Cnicht, Moelwyn Mawr, Moel Siabod, Snowdon, Y Lliwedd, Crib goch, Moel Hebog, Mynydd Mawr, Nantlle Ridge, The Glyders (including Tryfan), and more. Due to Nantgwynant's very centeral location, for those willing to drive a little further all of northern Snowdonia is easily accessable for those wanting to make Nantgwynant their base.
It is important for those considering more demanding adventures to be sure they have the right level of navigational skills and mountain knowledge, along with appropriate clothing and equipment for the proposed hike, mindful of the weather and conditions on the day before setting out. For more information on preparing for a walk in the mountains, please refer to the relevant sections in the books.
Not just a great place for walking
In addition to walking the area in and around the Nantgwinant valley is also ideal for a range of other outdoor activities for those with appropriate skills and equipment, including water activities (such as swimming / boating), bouldering and climbing, trail running, cycle trails in Beddgelert Forest, and, on a clear night gaining a grand view of the night sky (due to the low levels of 'light polution' in the area).
Local places to visit include the Welsh Highland Railway, the Sygun Copper Mine, and the National Trust visitor information centre next to the car part at Craflwyn.
The pretty village of Beddgelert at the end of the Nantgwynant Valley is also a popular place to visit, with plently of places to eat, or enjoy a drink or ice cream.
Cafe Gwynant / Caffi Gwynant Cafe in the heart of Nantgwynant is a great place for a drink, snack, breakfast or more substantial meal close to the start of the Watkin Path.
... very day can be a new adventure
