For those looking to challenge themselves against rock climbing routes and bouldering lines, there are many options in or near the Nantgwynant valley.
Bouldering
Some popular bouldering areas include:
Clogwyn y Bustach: located slightly to the north of the north end of Llyn Gwynant, this collection of ten main boulders offers a wide variety of challeges across a range of grades
Clogwyn y Fulfran: located about a third of the way down Llyn Gwynant (heading south from the north end) on the west side of the lake, this location offers a collection of challenging problems, mainly graded 7A - 8A.
Gwynant Roadblock / Blocffordd Gwynant: located about a third of the way down Llyn Gwynant (heading south from the north end) on the east side of the lake, an easy to reach boulder just 30 seconds walk from the road (with convenient roadside parking places). A range of grades, starting from 4A through to 8A
Gwynant Off Roadblock: located further up the hill from Gwyanant Roadblock, a small boulder with range of grades, starting from 6C through to 8A
Craig y Llyn Boulders: located on the west side of the road nearly level with the north end of Llyn Dinas, a small boulder with range of grades, starting from 6A through to 7A
Prinicle rocks
located a little further away to the north of the main road through Capel Curig, can also offer some good loctions, especially for those looking for easier grades
Climbing
Climbing locations in the area are well documented including famouse climbs on Y Llywedd, however, other options include:
Clogwyn y Bustach, located slightly to the north of the north end of Llyn Gwynant, with well known routes.
Clogwyn y Wenallt on Gallt y Wenallt, located about half way between the north end of Llyn Gwynant and Clogwyn y Bustach, this crag has nearly twenty climbs for experienced climbers. These climbs come with grand views over the lake!
Clogwyn y Fulfran (locally known as Elephant Rock), located about half way down Llyn Dwynant on the west side.
For those looking to learn new skills Plas y Brenin, just north of the head of the Nantgwynant Valley runs courses in climbing and bouldering, and also has indoor climbing walls / bouldering room.
